The periosteal extender is used for the gentle lengthening of periosteal fibers while preserving the stem cell-rich cambium layer, thus enabling tension-free wound closure, particularly in augmentation procedures. This is possible and important for both buccal and oral flap components. Unlike conventional periosteal incision with a scalpel, which can damage the epiperiosteal connective tissue along with its accompanying vessels and nerves, the periosteal extender protects this tissue. The instrument's serrations allow for atraumatic, effortless, and safe fiber lengthening, and its well-designed ergonomics make it easy to use.
